Would you believe us if we told you that this scratched pan is safe and healthy to cook in?

Well... it is! And we're here to tell you why scratched pans are perfectly okay.
When you scratch a pan that has a synthetic coating like Teflon, PTFE, or ceramic, that's a genuine problem — particles of the coating can end up in your food, and the pan's performance degrades permanently. That's why people replace coated pans when they get scratched.
But our AUS-ION™ pans are different. They are made from solid wrought iron with no synthetic coatings. What you see as a "scratch" is simply the natural seasoning being rubbed off in one spot. The iron underneath is completely inert and safe.
What Actually Happens When You Scratch an AUS-ION™ Pan?
You scratch through a bit of the polymerised oil layer (the patina). That's it. The iron underneath is completely safe. There are no chemicals to release, no coating to degrade, and no reason to replace the pan.
The scratch will naturally fill in again as you continue to cook with fats and oils. Over time, your pan will re-develop an even seasoning layer in that area, and you won't even see the scratch anymore.
Our Pans are Built to Last, Not to Look Perfect
Solidteknics AUS-ION™ pans are designed to be workhorses that improve with age. Scratches, patches, uneven colouring — these are all completely normal signs of a pan that's being well used. What matters is how your pan cooks, not how it looks.
So if your pan gets scratched, don't panic. Just keep cooking! Every time you cook with oils and fats, you're adding to your pan's patina and making it better for the long haul.
