HEX Pan FAQs:

  • Why did you decide to make hexagon pans?

  • What are the dimensions of the HEX pans?

  • Can I use my HEX pans on all heat sources?

Why is there a wiggle when the handle is in place?

The HEX handles were always designed to be a loose fit, otherwise it would be very difficult for cooks to align the handle so perfectly that it doesn't 'grab' and stick before it can be pushed into position. Any free play between the tines and the rim after handle is installed affects nothing whatsoever, because the strength is the same, it locks into position vertically, and the locking pin works to avoid any slip sideways. A little wiggle room is nothing to be concerned about and is as designed to allow for ease to attach and detach. As demonstrated in the video below, the inbuilt locking function is highly functional.

What is the Removable Handle used for?

Our Removable Handle is designed with versatility, durability and usability in mind, and is set to become your HEX pan's new best friend! This innovative take on a removable handle is made from one SOLID piece of Bronze, allowing you to keep your handles away from the heat while you cook.

What is Bronze?

The only difference between the two is aesthetics - both the Stainless Steel and the Bronze Removable Handle are the exact same in strength, durability and functionality.

Our Bronze Removable Handle was an exclusive offer just for members of our Lovers Group. It is a limited edition collectable item, that will gradually develop a warm bronze patina over time.

How do I attach the Removable Handle to my HEX Pan?

Simply press the hump on the Removable Handle to lower the heart-shaped locking pin into position. You can then slide the corner edge of the HEX pan rim inbetween the prongs on either side of the handle. Once in position, release the hump and the heart-shaped locking pin will pop up slightly in the matching heart of the HEX pan to secure the Removable Handle in position.

How much weight can the Removable Handle hold?

We have yet to fully test the limits to how much our Removable Handle can hold, as it has been able to hold everything that we have tried so far!

For reference on just how strong our Removable Handle is, here is a quick clip of Mark using it to hold 10kg in one of his HEX pans:

How much pressure do I need to use?

Only a small amount of pressure is required to press the hump that moves the heart-shaped pin down into position, to attach it or remove it from your HEX pan. This movement is only a few millimeters, so a simple squeeze is all it needs. Once the Removable Handle is attached to your HEX pan, it becomes like part of the pan itself - no extra force or pressure is required to use the Removable Handle until you are ready to detach it from the pan.

Here's a clip to show you how a little pressure is all that's required to latch and unlatch the Removabe Handle:

How strong is the connection between the Removable Handle and the HEX pan?

In Mark's words, we are called "SOLIDteknics, we're not FLOPPYtecknics"! This truly is SOLID engineering - our Removable Handle is one piece, and the strongest, most simple and most secure removable handle on the market. As long as the heart pin engages correctly with the heart-shaped hole on your HEX pan, the Removable Handle isn't going anywhere. This means that you can even tilt your pan to pour the contents out, and the Removable Handle still won't budge!

To show just how strong the connection is when the Removable Handle is on a HEX pan, here's a clip of us using it to flip a 2.5kg weight!

Will the Removable Handle work on my other Solidteknics pans?

Our Removable Handle is specially designed and engineered to work with our HEX pans, so will only work on pans from the HEX range.

Can I use the Removable Handle on my HEX pan with its lid on?

The Removable Handle is not designed to clip onto both the base and the lid at the same time. If you would like to keep the lid on your base while still being able to attach the Removable Handle, you can offset the lid to allow room for the handle to clip onto a corner of the base. When the lid is in this offset position, you are also then able to use the Removable Handle to remove the lid by simply clipping the handle into one of the heart-shaped holes of the lid. This will still work even if your lid is 'updside down', as the rims and hearts of the HEX pans are the exact same, no matter which way up you have it.

Why did you decide to make hexagon pans?

Our HEX pan range is designed to allow for more compact and versatile cooking and storage, while still getting all of the benefits of cooking with our nöni™ stainless steel. You can use every spot on your cooktop and fill every available space in your oven, without long handles taking up prime cooking real estate. They are designed to perfectly stack inside each other for simple and compact storing, making them an especially good choice for those tight on cupboard space, or adding to their camping cookware collection. Or, if you're just someone who likes a tidy and organised kitchen, you'll enjoy their stackability too ;). With the launch of our new Removable Handle, this handle-less cookware system is made even easier, as you only require one handle for your entire HEX collection!

What are the dimensions of the HEX pans?

For the dimensions of our HEX pans, head to the dimensions category in the product description of the HEX pans:

20cm HEX Pan - Deep Base

20cm HEX Pan - Shallow Lid

23cm HEX Pan - Deep Base

23cm HEX Pan - Shallow Lid

Can I use my HEX pans on all heat sources?

Yes! Our HEX pans are made from our nöni™ material, and are suitable for ALL heat sources. From stovetop, to oven, to the campfire on your weekend adventure, our HEX pans can handle it all.

This is just the start of our HEX cookware system!

Remember, all Solid Lovers launches are a product development journey, and that is more true than ever with HEX cookware system. A modular system that is so extensive that we've only shown a small fraction so far: pans and handles. There will be small dual handle extensions coming, but it will take time, while so many other more challenging innovations are under development. You could wait until most of the modular system is fully developed and in our retail web store, but that may be several years away, in reality, and decades for the full system. We hope you come along for the ride and secure the first editions.
