With the growth and success of Solidteknics over the past ten years, many people and industry professionals regard Mark Henry as the Pan Man who is revolutionising the cookware industry. However, you may not know that before he founded Solidteknics to make the world's first one-piece wrought cookware, Mark's first engineering passion was one-piece knives! In fact, he's been making knives his whole life.
While completing his mechanical engineering degree at university (QUT) in Australia, Mark started making one-piece knives, putting endless hours of research into cutting edges, knife materials, knife handle shapes – every small aspect of quality knife designing. He then went on to complete his Honours in knife materials and cutting edges, which lead to him founding the Füri™ knife brand. After years of growing the brand from a concept to an industry-leading company, Mark sold Füritechnics in 2008 to shift his focus from creating one-piece knives to creating seamless one-piece cookware, and in 2014, Solidteknics was born.
Never forgetting his first passion of knife-making, Mark has continued working on innovative knife designs in the background as Solidteknics took the cookware industry by storm, even creating an exclusive range of purist one-piece cast/forged carbon steel knives under our Söliditi™ brand.
After taking a step back from the mainstream knife industry over the past decade, Mark 'The Knife Man' Henry is back, making his long-awaited return to the knife world with Modüla™: The world's first interchangeable taper lock knife range!
Mark and the Solid team will be showcasing the engineering expertise of Solidteknics in a major expansion in the USA in 2024, with world-leading innovations in both cookware and knives leading the way. Together with our Solid supporters, we're about to make history again!

Designed for the everyday knife user, with the perfect combination of high-quality manufacturing, handle ergonomics and easily changeable knife blades to bring professional-standard knives into the comfort of your own kitchen. We have also designed a professional diamond-coated knife sharpener to maintain your Modüla™ blades.
The handle of our Modüla™ knives is precision cast in high-quality aluminium in Australia. With a similar ergonomic shape as the handle of our previous Söliditi™ knives, it's designed to fit comfortably in the hand for a natural-feeling, non-slip hold. The open design is simple and minimalistic, and allows access to the blade's tang to easily change out the blades.
Our Modüla™ blades are made from durable, highest-quality Japanese Damascus VG-10 or AUS-8 Steel by master bladesmiths in Japan. The Damascus blades bear a beautiful wavy design along their length that will be unique for each blade. With an ultra-sharp symmetrical edge and generously scalloped sides for easier food release, these are the ultimate high-performance blades for everyday use. Each blade has a long tapered tang designed to lock into our Modüla™ handles with one simple motion.
Every handle will also include one of our Modüla™ Keys – the specially designed tool that is quite literally the key to unlocking the blades of your Modüla™ knives! With an oval-shaped spigot that's designed to fit perfectly in the oval-shaped gap between the blade's tang and the handle's bridge, you can use this tool to crack the tight seal of the blade in one simple twisting or squeezing motion.
As an extra little bonus feature, our Modüla™ Key also doubles as a bottle opener! So you can 'crack' open your knife and a cold one, all with the same tool.
This design has been carefully crafted by Mark, for the best user experience possible. Here's a small glimpse into the prototyping process, showing how one small change in the angle of the Key's spigot made a world of difference when using it to release the blade with one hand!
Sometimes the simplest designs are the most revolutionary! Essentially, the way that our interchangeable design works all comes down to the angle and shape of the blade’s tang.
The tang of our Modüla™ knife blades has a specially engineered fine taper that aligns perfectly with the internal edges of the knife handle. When the two are joined together with a light amount of force, it creates a very precise and strong wedge that ‘locks’ the blade into the handle. No screws or rivets necessary – just like our pans!
Pre-order your very own Modüla™ knives HERE!
When you want to swap out your knife’s current blade for another, you can simply insert our uniquely designed Modüla™ Key into the oval-shaped gap in the knife’s handle, give it a small twist or squeeze, and your blade will be able to slide right out!
To insert the new blade into the handle of your knife, simply slide the blade into the end of the handle, then carefully hold the spine of the blade and tap the handle down against a solid surface. With only a light amount of force, this creates an incredibly strong connection between the handle and blade that won’t release until you want it to!
It really comes down to two key things: versatility and sustainability.
If you’re a heavy knife user or professional chef, you likely know how quickly knife blades can wear down with regular use and sharpening. Having an interchangeable knife allows you to keep the same handle for your entire life, and simply swap out your old worn-down blade for a fresh new one! This helps to keep plastic knife handles from unnecessarily going to landfill once their blade has run its course.
This interchangeable design also provides great versatility when prepping food, allowing you to easily change the blade style of your knife depending on what it is you’re cutting.
We will be releasing many new blade shapes/styles and materials as the Modüla™ range grows, so you may also want to upgrade or change style and add to your collection over time.
Be one of the first people in the world to get your hands on our new Modüla™ knives and sharpener at exclusive pricing – Pre-order yours HERE!
For the launch of our Modüla™ range, we’re introducing two versatile blade options: our 17cm Santoku blade and our 22cm Carving blade, both available in Japanese Damascus VG-10 and AUS-8 Steel. Between these blade options, you have most of your everyday chopping and slicing needs covered!
Let's talk steel! We have two stainless steel blade material options available: our Japanese AUS8 Steel that's very tough and rust-resistant, or our Japanese Damascus VG10 which is the rust-resistant, easy-to-sharpen hero, with its mesmerising wavy pattern. It's like having a work of art in your kitchen!
AUS8 is an excellent, highly regarded Japanese knife steel, tougher and more resistant to abuse (less prone to chipping), has slightly lower corrosion resistance than VG10 and not quite as hard (HRC58). It won’t hold an edge quite as long as the exceptional VG10, though is easy to resharpen.
VG10 is a relatively more expensive and one of the famous premium Japanese knife steels, it is typically harder (HRC60) and holds an edge better, the trade off being it can chip if mistreated. It does have high corrosion resistance though it can have pitting if treated badly; say if you leave it in a corrosive liquid, or cut acidic items and leave your knife lying around without cleaning. A legendary blade steel for a lot of good reasons!
Back to blades! Both our Santoku and Carving blades are designed to be used with the same handle, meaning you only need to purchase one handle that can be added onto either blade (and any more we introduce!). Or, if you'd prefer to leave a handle on each of your blades for everyday use, you can pre-order our blade and handle sets!
Our 17cm Santoku blade is a great all-rounder Japanese style of blade, perfect for chopping, dicing, slicing and mincing various meats, fish and vegetables. Its precision edge makes it great for slicing paper-thin pieces, and the wide blade means you can scoop up and transfer sliced and diced foods with ease.
Our 22cm Carving blade is perfect for slicing up large cuts of meats, such as poultry, ham and roasts! Its long blade is ideal for long, smooth slices and precision carving, every time.
Step aside gimmicky pull-through sharpeners that only damage your knife's cutting edge... THIS is the real deal! Our new diamond-coated Modüla™ sharpening system is what knife sharpening dreams are made of. A simplistic one-piece design that’s incredibly easy to use, and gives you the perfect 20° symmetrical edge with every pass-through. Perfect for all cooks, from pro chefs to home cooks!
Ready to elevate your sharpening game? Pre-order your Modüla™ Sharpener HERE!
Made from spring steel with a diamond coating to achieve an ultra-sharp cutting edge when sharpening your Modüla™ knives – or any double bevel knife, for that matter. The hinged tines of our Modüla™ Sharpener are engineered to precisely 20°, and give the ideal edge for all of your everyday cutting and slicing needs.
With keyholes strategically placed on its sides and base, you can mount your Modüla™ Sharpener wherever you need it most! All you need is a screw with a head small enough to fit through the mounting holes, and you can simply lock the sharpener on anywhere you’ve placed a screw, as well as quickly remove it.
Every blade will arrive in a bamboo storage board to protect the blade’s edge, which also doubles as a great little chopping board for putting your Modüla™ knives to good use. These bamboo boards will have two screws in their end, which can be used to mount the sharpener with the side keyholes and keep it securely in place while sharpening your knives.
We have also created a specially-designed mount that includes a Modüla™ Sharpener attached to its base – our Trilobite sharpening mount!
Named after the extinct marine arthropod that looks similar, our Trilobite sharpening mount is designed so you can hold your Modüla™ Sharpener in place to sharpen your knives, all while ensuring your hands are kept safely away from the blade. Made from precision die-cast aluminium, it’s durable and strong enough to handle many years of sharpening to come. The Modüla™ Sharpener is held in place with four small screws in its base, ensuring it stays right where you need it when sharpening.
Pre-order your very own Modüla™ Trilobite sharpening mount HERE!
It has been designed with safe knife sharpening in mind, with ridges along the surface for a more secure grip and a spikey ridgeline to prevent you from resting your thumb in the path of the blade. The Trilobite also has rubber feet on its underside, to prevent it from slipping on your benchtop with the sharpening motion.
Unlike the dragging motion of popular yet poorly-designed pull-through sharpeners, you simply use a gentle rocking motion to move the edge of your knife through the diamond-coated fingers of your Modüla™ Sharpener. The poor design of commonly used pull-through sharpeners can actually damage your blade under the guise of ‘sharpening’ it, as the dragging motion hacks away at the microscopic serrations on the very edge of your blade. Our Modüla™ Sharpener is designed to smoothly sharpen your blade with the correct ‘micro saw’ teeth, as it rocks across each finger, resulting in a clean, pro-level sharpened edge.
To thank you for your early support for our new world-first Modüla™ knife system and sharpener, we are offering FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING* for pre-orders placed in the first seven days of our exclusive Lovers-only launch! Once this offer ends at midnight this Sunday (AEST), standard shipping rates will apply, so make sure you get in quick and lock in your Modüla™ pre-orders now! *See the full disclaimer below.
Every Modüla™ blade and handle will be shipped in a special bamboo storage board, which can also be used to mount your Modüla™ Sharpener!

We make it our business to bring innovation to the world and it's you that has access to it first. We are thrilled we can be so close to our early adopters. We do our best to set realistic timelines, however, with innovation, often comes unpredictable challenges. We suggest that you only back our new launches if you are willing to go on our innovative journey with us - which may encounter speed bumps from time to time. Otherwise, you are best to wait for the pieces to reach our online 'buy now' store as, by that stage, we have ironed out the manufacturing method. The Solid supporters who trust us to deliver on our promises are rewarded with lowest ever pricing, earliest production dates and numbered in series for the highest value in heirloom collectables.
Head to our exclusive Solid Lovers Store to pre-order. You will need to be logged in to see the store and the listings. If you don't yet have access to our Lovers' store, please FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

Here, you'll find our answers to all of your Modüla™-related questions!
Let's break down your journey to finding the perfect knife set with our Modüla™ system!
STEP ONE: Know your blades
The 17cm Santoku blade is your trusty all-rounder from Japan. It's like the versatile Swiss Army knife of the kitchen, perfect for chopping, dicing, slicing and mincing various meats, fish and vegetables. Its precision edge makes it great for slicing paper-thin pieces, and the wide blade means you can scoop up and transfer sliced and diced foods with ease.
Let's not forget our 22cm Carving blade – it's perfect for slicing up large cuts of meats, such as poultry, ham and roasts! Its long blade is ideal for long, smooth slices and precision carving, every time.
STEP TWO: Pick your blade style
Consider which blade suits your style best. Are you leaning towards the 17cm Santoku Knife for everyday use or the grand 22cm Carving Knife for those special occasions? Or, if you want the ultimate knife duo, why not both?
STEP THREE: Choose your blade material
Alright, time to talk steel!
STEP FOUR: Decide if you also want a Modüla™ Sharpener
Interested in our revolutionary sharpening system? If yes, buckle up for step five.
If not, no worries – we've got you covered in step six!
STEP FIVE: Select your sharpening system
Here's where the magic happens. Will you go with the Modüla™ Sharpener head, versatile and ready to mount wherever you please? Or perhaps the ultra-portable Trilobite sharpening mount, named after an ancient marine creature and designed to keep your fingers safe while sharpening? A tough choice, but you can't go wrong either way!
STEP SIX: Time to secure your Modüla™ knives and sharpener
Now that you have your perfect Modüla™ System in mind, it's time to dive into the Hidden Lovers Store and make it official! Browse through our range, pre-order your Modüla™ knives and sharpeners, and get ready to elevate your cooking game to new heights! Just remember to log in to unlock those exclusive listings.
Yes, you can! Our InversionEdge™ Sharpening System can definitely be used on Western-style knives that have a symmetrical edge, like our Modüla™ knives. You will simply need to flip your Modüla™ knife to ensure you sharpen both sides of the edge evenly.
No, we don't recommend this. As the blades of our purist Söliditi™ knives are single-bevel, they need to be hand-sharpened using whetstones (like our InversionEdge™ Sharpening System) to maintain their single-bevel edge.
Yes, you can use your Modüla™ Sharpener to sharpen any Western-style knife! Just ensure you are using the correct rocking motion, and you'll be able to get a pro edge on any of your existing symmetrical knife blades.
While Japanese water stones are said to give the finest results, this method is tricky and overkill to achieve Western symmetrical edges for most cooks. Our Modula sharpener isn't a drag-through tool. It's designed to be used with a motion that replicates a swipe across a stone while removing human error.
The diamonds on our Modula sharpener are very fine and act as the perfect companion to our Modula knife. The angles are perfect for maintaining the exceptionally sharp nature of our blades.
Our Japanese AUS-8 Steel blade option is tough and rust-resistant, perfect if you're simply after a classic everyday knife blade. Our Japanese Damascus VG-10 blade option is the ultimate high-quality, rust-resistant, easy-to-sharpen hero, with its mesmerizing wavy pattern. It's like having a work of art in your kitchen! VG-10 is one of a few legendary Japanese blade materials, and essentially better than AUS-8 (which is already an exceptional blade steel!).
No matter which blade material option you choose, you'll be receiving an incredibly high-quality and high-performance knife blade!
No, both blade materials weigh the same!
Our Modüla™ Handle weighs approx. 60 grams, our 17cm Santoku blades weigh approx. 112 grams, and our 22cm Carving blades weigh approx. 117 grams.
This is a hard one to give a clear-cut answer, as everyone's perception of 'normal usage' is different! Our blades will last as long as every other very high-end blade. If you use your Modüla™ Sharpener sparingly, these blades will last for decades. If they're being heavily used and sharpened often, the will wear down slightly faster.
We don't recommend putting your Modüla™ knives in the dishwasher, as it can be detrimental to the quality of your knife (causing excessive bluntness and a higher risk of rust). A gentle hand-wash and dry should be all your Modüla™ knives require to keep them clean!
We anticipate shipping for our Modüla™ range to start in late September 2024, once all of the pieces have completed production.
Your free domestic shipping will automatically be applied at the checkout when you enter an Australian delivery address and select the standard shipping option. Before completing the payment for your pre-order, we recommend checking that the free domestic shipping discount has been applied to your cart. If you notice it hasn't been automatically applied, it may be due to one of the following reasons: (a) you've selected an Express or International Shipping option, or; (b) you have items in your cart that are not part of our new Modüla™ range. If you are experiencing any issues with redeeming your free domestic shipping, please contact our customer care team at info@solidteknics.com for further assistance.
Our Free Domestic Shipping offer is exclusive to our new Modüla™ range, and is for standard shipping within Australia only. The offer ends at 11:59pm Sunday 31 March (AEST).
If you lose your Modüla™ Key that came included with your handle, we will have some spare Modüla™ Keys available that you can purchase individually. Please contact our customer care team at info@solidteknics.com to arrange a replacement.
Our Modüla™blades are measured along the cutting edge, as shown in the graphic below. So, the cutting edge of our 17cm Santoku blade is 17cm long, and the cutting edge of our 22cm Carving blade is 22cm long.
If you haven't found an answer to your question here, please email our amazing customer care team at info@solidteknics.com so they can help you further!
