We often get emails and messages from customers who are worried that their AUS-ION™ pans have developed a bit of rust. We're here to tell you not to stress – rusty iron pans are a super simple fix! Our non-toxic cookware is forever renewable — and completely free from PFAS, PFOA, and PTFE.
See below how Brian, one of our Solid Lovers, transformed these AUS-ION™ pans from rusty, to RAW, to beautifully seasoned and ready to cook!
The Wonderful Thing About Our Seasoned Iron Cookware Is That It's Forever Renewable!
Cheap, disposable pans that reach a 'destroyed' state like this would undoubtedly need to be thrown to landfill – an outcome that's bad for your wallet, and even worse for the environment.
Luckily, our AUS-ION™ pans are simply seasoned wrought iron. No synthetic coatings, no harmful chemicals, no components that will permanently break down or degrade. Just natural iron that can always be restored.
How to Rescue a Rusty AUS-ION™ Pan
- Remove the rust: Use steel wool, a scouring pad, or coarse salt and oil to scrub away the rust. For heavy rust, you may need sandpaper. Scrub until the rust is completely gone and the surface feels smooth.
- Wash and dry thoroughly: Wash the pan well, then dry completely — either with a cloth or briefly on the stovetop over low heat to ensure every trace of moisture is gone.
- Season immediately: Apply a very thin layer of oil and follow our oven seasoning method (250°C for 1.5–2 hours upside down), or do a quick stovetop season. Repeat 2–3 times for a strong foundation.
- Get cooking! The best way to keep your pan in great shape is to cook with it regularly. Every cook adds to the patina and builds a stronger, better non-stick surface.
Remember — a bit of rust is not the end of the world for an AUS-ION™ pan. It's simply a sign that the pan needs a little love. With our forever renewable iron cookware, you can always bring it back to its former glory!
